My friend Sally and I were headed out and about recently (before I got sick, I might add) and I asked her to drive by places where the homes were similar to mine. I wanted to see how others decorate their porches and landscape their yards.
What I found surprised me. In this first area, we drove through a part of town where some of the people didn't take very good care of their properties.
Others took great pride in their homes.
You can judge which are well cared for and which aren't.
Once we got on a main road,
we ran into all kinds of construction.
It seemed like it went on for miles.
When we stopped at Sam's, I saw this in a truck in the parking lot. I simply HAD to take a photo.
Back on the road, we were stopped by construction again.
While we waited and waited and waited, I took a few photos of the heavy equipment,
and the people working for the construction company.
Now we were in a very different part of town, where residential and commercial co-existed.
A very different part of town, but similar homes like mine.
I have many more of these photos, but I don't want to bore you. Thanks for going out and about with me to see three very different parts of my town, but all built up during a similar era due to the craftsman style homes. Again, I am so grateful you visited today.

A really great tour around Elizabeth. I am always amazed at all the space around the houses and lack of boundaries between each place and the road. We are all crammed into small estates and I guess that is because of the size of our country and yours. Thank you for showing us around

ReplyDeleteThanks for the ride around your neighbourhood. It's a pity when people don't care for their front gardens, it really makes a difference to the house.
Here I find that rented houses don't look as well cared for as the ones where the owners live.
Its interesting how different part of the country have different feels (never mind topography) and different style homes. These cute little places look nothing like homes here in New Hampshire. I bet when things green up everything looks so much fresher and better too. Enjoyed my little car trip around your city. Especially since I've never been to Kansas. Happy mid week. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ride. Cute homes, but with nothing much in bloom yet hard to say who takes pride in their landscaping and who doesn't have time or know how to plant. I vote for another road trip in a month or two to see the difference.

I like your town. Maybe take that drive again near the 4th of July and see what the porches and yards look like then? I'd like to see that and maybe the construction will be done-ha! Hope you are feeling better.

It's harder for me to tell in the winter. I love porches and I love brick and stone. Was fun to travel around the neighborhood with you. :)

ReplyDeleteI liked the orange-brown house with the curved roof near the end and the truck with the three stuffed toys - of course you had to take this photo.
One thing that struck me was that there seemed to be a lot of space and a lot of sky. I wonder if you have any hills nearby.

It's kinda like window shopping :) to drive around and look at what people have done with their homes and yards. I might get some good ideas that way.

So nice to have a tour in your neck of the woods. Cute homes. I'm amazed at how flat everything is. I don't understand why it is so hard to keep your property clean - not a good reflection on the home dwellers:(

We have folk who live next to some really neat gardens but they just don't care about theirs - we think they may be let to students and the landlords don't care once they have tenants!Huga, Chrisx
